Departments

Departments divide the organization into operational units (Audio, Video, Lighting, etc.) that scope data visibility, asset ownership, and user access.

Overview

Each department links to locations through a many-to-many relationship and to users via a pivot table that includes the user's role. A department switcher changes the active context, filtering assets, deficiencies, racks, and inventory throughout the application.

Key Features

  • Department switcher — A dropdown in the header allows users to change their active department context at any time.
  • Session persistence — The system remembers the last-used department across sessions so users return to their preferred context.
  • Per-department rack configuration — Racks can be enabled or disabled on a per-department basis.
  • Custom icons — Each department can be assigned a custom icon via the built-in icon picker.
  • Scoped visibility — Admins see all departments; regular users see only departments they are assigned to.
