Data Import

A four-step wizard for bulk-importing assets and inventory items from CSV or Excel files, with intelligent column mapping and optional AI-assisted field detection.

Overview​

The import process follows four steps:

  1. Upload and settings — Select a file and configure import options.
  2. Column mapping — Map file columns to system fields with a sample data preview.
  3. Validation preview — Review row-by-row validation results before committing.
  4. Processing — Background processing with real-time progress tracking.

Column mappings can be saved as named presets for repeated imports. An optional AI column matcher (via Anthropic API) suggests field mappings with confidence scores.

  • Supported formats — CSV, TXT, XLS, and XLSX files up to 20 MB.
  • Auto-detect mapping — The system analyzes column headers and sample data to suggest field mappings automatically.
  • Per-row type override — Mark individual rows as "asset" or "inventory item" during the mapping step.
  • Validation before commit — Rows with validation errors can be skipped before the import is finalized.
  • Auto-creation summary — Before processing, the system shows which manufacturers, categories, and vendors will be created as a result of the import.
  • Saved mapping presets — Store column mapping configurations as named presets to speed up future imports with similar file layouts.
