Location Types

Location Types define the vocabulary of physical space types — Theater, Rack Room, Corridor, Bridge, and more — with hierarchy constraints and asset-hosting rules.

Data Model

Each LocationType record includes:

  • Name — the display label (e.g., "Theater," "Engine Room").
  • Category — groups related types together (Venue, Room, Infrastructure, etc.).
  • Icon — visual identifier shown in the location tree.
  • Min / Max hierarchy levels — controls where the type can appear in the tree.
  • Asset-hosting flag — determines whether assets can be directly placed at locations of this type.

When creating a location at a given hierarchy level, only types whose min/max range includes that level appear as options.

Who It's For

Administrators tailoring the location vocabulary to their domain. Cruise ships need types like "Bridge" and "Engine Room," while convention centers need "Exhibit Hall" and "Loading Dock."

Key Features

  • Icon picker for visual identification in the location tree.
  • Min/max level constraints prevent nonsensical nesting — a "Building" cannot nest inside a "Closet."
  • Asset-hosting toggle controls whether assets can be directly placed at that location type.
  • Categories group related types for cleaner organization and filtering.
